Smart Choices: Setting You Up for Success
‘Actionable’ is a concept that provides the basis for success when learning a skill. You wouldn’t expect a child to learn to ride a bike by simply telling them how to ride, they have to experience it by taking action. The same is true for decision-making; it has to be experienced. One of the beauties of the human mind is that vivid visualization provides just as powerful an experience as being put in an actual situation. That’s what Smart Choices allows parents to do with their children, teach decision-making using the power of visualization. There is an inevitable conflict involved in teaching anyone, adult or child, how to deal with danger. We obviously don’t want to endanger someone to teach them how to avoid danger. And yet we need an experience to make the lesson well understood and impactful. Displaying well chosen images, along with intelligent discussion about them, uses the power of visualization to provide the lesson without involving actual danger or trauma. Smart Choices provides the same image based actionable learning principles for children that Image Based Decisional Drills does for adults. Flash cards are a time proven educational tool. Smart Choices brings that tool to parents as a way to teach children how to make good decisions and keep their children safe. Claude Werner The Tactical Professor |

We are a distracted society. It has never been easier or faster to communicate, and with that comes the constant pull for our attention. What used to be common sense, learned through everyday experiences, is lost unless it receives specific attention. I am constantly looking for ways to teach my daughters to be cognizant around them.

If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that danger lurks around every corner, under every rock, in between every crevice. Moreover, the media continues to plant seeds of doom and gloom in our minds, especially in our children who are connected to electronic devices daily. That is why I love Smart Choices. A card based educational tool to help open a dialogue between parent and child that helps build confidence, create awareness, and teaches a child to use their mind to determine a course of action if they are in situations where they must think for themselves. Whether it’s a card that shows a broken glass window, fire, or something poisonous, the 84 different cards allow children to learn how to act in situations. As an author of firearms education and safety for kids, I very much enjoy Smart Choices as it now gives me another avenue to help prepare my children for the future. Furthermore, my wife, who is a kindergarten teacher applauds Smart Choices as it gives her another tool to help educate children and allows her to give parents the ability to ensure the safety of their children.

"This is a really cool resource for parents that is a subset of Image Based Decisional Drills and I think this is a fantastic and valuable tool! These Image Cards are for children ages 4-13 but children older will also benefit. Each of these 84 cards is NOT designed to make kids make "snap decisions" but for mom & dad, or educators, or a trusted person in their life to talk to children about self defense related and smart decision related stuff that is age appropriate. Each card has "discussion points" on the back and lets the PATENTS SET THE RULES. These cards lead families to really good discussions and allows the parents to be the "drivers". Once again, you are proactively helping kids make good decisions to help them stay safe in a way that does not intimidate children, does not scare children, but sets them up for success. This is one I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND."

Counselors will find these cards a valuable tool in helping “abuse proof” children. They remind me of the “What If” game I used to play with my own children and the children enrolled in my day care business. Unfortunately, the only thing that existed at that time was my voice presenting the situation and helping them find the right response. These visual aids say so much more than words can convey. I am now a trauma therapist working with children as well as adults and I am looking forward to a set of cards to help traumatized children prevent being revictimized by preparing their mind with a safety plan. Thank you Shelley Hill for caring enough about our citizens of all ages to design this tool. I have no doubt it will prevent many tragedies and keep our children and teens safe.

CLICK HERE: I think the product is both brilliant and unique. I’ve never seen anything like it on the market. I will be loaning my version of Smart Decisions to all of my friends who are parents of young children. It is an amazing idea and superbly executed. I can’t recommend this product highly enough.

This style of learning is kinetic (active) and visual and auditory if mom/dad is there giving explanations. Learning is most effective when children can learn new material through multiple ways of comprehension and this product does that. It teaches our children the Life Skills that make us responsible adults. How to be good humans by exposing us at a young age to good decision making skills. These decision making skills are not taught in an academic setting such as school unless you’re at lunch or on the playground. What’s a healthy lunch? Who is a good playmate? Family is at the core of our culture for a reason. Family is where we learn our values and how to make good decisions. This product gives our children pre-exposure to dangers and decisions in life that allow your child to have “been there”. They have practiced and prepared for this temptation/situation. I remember role playing with both my sons on "what they will do when offered weed at a party". We had a code set up that they would call and say they were sick and needed a pick up. Its the old Boy Scout adage: Be Prepared.
